Dr. Hadeel S. Hasan
Founder & Psychotherapist
DSW, LCSW, ICS, CSAC
Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Independent Clinical Supervisor (ICS), Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), and I hold a Doctorate in Social Work, with over nine years of experience providing psychotherapy. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings, including intensive outpatient care and managing a private practice in the Madison community. I work with clients affected by depression, anxiety, substance use, complex trauma, and relationship challenges, from individual sessions to group therapy.
Originally from Chicago, I moved to Madison over a decade ago to continue my education. I received my Master’s in Mental Health Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My Doctoral studies at Walden University focused on assessing agency structures and programs to develop a comprehensive understanding of the outcomes, improve services offered to clients, and understand complex trauma resulting from exposure to community violence. My passion for learning and education has led me to become a part of the teaching faculty at the UW-Madison School of Social Work, where I work closely with students actively training and learning in the field, and teaching mental health field seminars and psychopathology.
My approach to therapy is client-centered: clients are the experts in their lives and determine the direction and depth of therapy. I advocate for kids and adults struggling with disorders that impede their daily lives. I am passionate about helping others learn about their disorders because I believe that when one understands the underlying cause of their symptoms, they have a fighting chance to begin a new life. Some people just need a fighting chance and someone willing to fight for them. Through a strengths-based, solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to help clients identify strengths and develop treatment plans that achieve their goals. Through Internal Family Systems Theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring the relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help them discover dysfunctional thought patterns that lead to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. Using Parts Work for Complex PTSD and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I support clients through developing skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving clients towards a life involving the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy reading, golfing, learning to ski, cooking, and traveling to new places.
McKenzie J. Valenza
MSW Advanced Practice Intern
As an advanced practice mental health intern, I bring a thoughtful integration of formal clinical training and meaningful lived experience to my work with clients. My background as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), combined with several years in case management, has shaped a holistic and person-centered approach to care. I understand that healing is not one-dimensional—it requires both tangible, practical support and the space for deeper emotional exploration and processing.
In my work, I strive to create a safe, collaborative environment where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. I value meeting individuals where they are, honoring their unique stories, and supporting them in building insight, resilience, and sustainable change. My experience has allowed me to work alongside individuals navigating complex systems and life challenges, and I am especially attuned to the importance of advocacy, accessibility, and culturally responsive care.
I believe that meaningful therapeutic work happens at the intersection of trust, authenticity, and skillful guidance. Whether supporting clients in developing coping strategies, processing past experiences, or working toward personal goals, I aim to foster both growth and self-compassion throughout the process.
Outside of my professional role, I enjoy traveling, spending quality time with my family, and engaging in arts and crafts, which provide a creative and grounding balance to my work.
